Community Supported Agriculture
CSA, or community supported agriculture, is a way for farmers and customers to pre-arrange produce sharing. It benefits farmers by taking some of the guess work out of marketing and making cash flow to the early part of the season. It benefits consumers by reserving the cream of the crop before the season, while forming a relationship with your local growers. Think of it as hiring your own personal farmer!
As of 2016, we are a proud partner with Wholesome Wave Georgia, the non-profit which makes our doubling of SNAP/Food Stamp benefits possible. We can now accept and double SNAP/EBT benefits for CSA shares, which means $200 SNAP benefits = $400 CSA share!
Buying Club- rolling applications accepted
For $100/year you receive 15% off all market purchases. We accept members on a rolling basis.
To break this down, if you spend an average of $55/month ($13.75/week) with us you will save money by participating in the buyer's club.
The buying club is a way for people who purchase from us regularly to maintain shopping flexibility and get a discount for their loyalty. It suits families of all sizes and eating habits (you decide what, when and how much) and is great for people who like preserving the bounty, makin' baby food, or catering.
CSA Boxes- Spring/Summer 2016
For 16 weeks and a price of $400 ($25 of produce a week) we will pack a selection of the best of each week’s harvest. Everything will be grown by us, on our farm, with no chemicals, synthetics, GMO’s, or herbicides. We try to provide a balanced share each week with salad ingredients, roots, staples veggies, starches, treats/fruit and an herb weekly when in season.
We have three weekly pickup locations to choose from:
Wednesdays from 3:00-6pm at Tattnal Square Park in Macon at the Mulberry Market- 4/13/16 to 7/27/16
Thursdays anytime on the farm, in Jeffersonville- 4/14/16 to 7/28/16
Saturdays from 9am-noon in Milledgeville at the Green Farmers Market- 4/16/16 to 7/30/16
Fill out a CSA Application and send a $50 deposit to reserve your space, full payment is due by March 1, 2016.
What can I expect in my box?
The freshest, most nutritious and delish produce we have. Below is an example of what's in season:
Spring: lettuce mix, strawberries, carrots, radishes, arugula, sugar snap peas, dill, pea tendrils, green onions, kale
Summer: summer salad mix, figs, tomatoes, sweet peppers, okra, potatoes, garlic, beans, basil, flowers, melon
Fall/Winter: sweet potato, kohlrabi, garlic, popcorn, salad mix, greens, carrots, radishes, tomato sauce, pumpkin, chives
How much flexibility will I have in my CSA boxes? (I don’t like hot peppers!)
On the CSA Application we have a spot to fill out some of your favorite and least favorite veggies. We will keep these preferences (and any food allergies you tell us about) in mind when we pack your boxes. Because we have a small CSA, and because we grow a large variety of produce, we will accommodate you when we can! However, our produce is seasonal, we will not be able to offer what mother nature doesn't let us grow: no tomatoes in January or strawberries in August, sorrry!
I receive SNAP/Food Stamp benefits, and would like to sign up for a CSA share. How does this work?
Thanks to Wholesome Wave GA and the USDA, our farm is able to accept food stamps for produce and CSA shares at half the benefit costs. Through grants and fund-matching, WWG and the farm partners (us!) will match your benefit dollars up to $50 per day. So if you take $50 off your EBT card, we match it and give you $100 of product. This can be applied to regular produce purchases or CSA shares from our farm. (This only applies to SNAP/EBT qualifying items like produce and food-producing plants, it can not be used for cut flowers or ornamental plants. Everything we offer through the CSA is SNAP eligible.) With a simple payment plan you can purchase a $400 CSA share with us for $200 worth of SNAP benefits, no out of pocket cash needed. If you would like to take advantage of this, indicate on your application that you will be paying with SNAP/EBT and we will adjust your payments to work within your monthly benefit schedule. We understand and abhor the stigma many people face for receiving SNAP benefits/food stamps and will always warmly welcome SNAP customers, and maintain privacy and professionalism while serving you.
Which option is the best fit for me?
Our CSA boxes are best suited to people who love vegetables, and who like to experiment in the kitchen and try new things. A lot of what we grow is rare, heirloom, and exotic veggies from Asia, Europe, and South America. We also grow many of the more classic American varieties. If you want to be surprised with new foods and have some of the shopping decisions done for you (aka grower’s choice) then you will love it! Many of the things we grow are great eaten raw, cooked, or juiced. If you have a family of pickier eaters, need a different volume (canning, baby food, juicing), plan to leave town regularly, or just like to do your own shopping, consider the Buyer’s Club, which afford you the flexibility at a great price.
What happens if I need to miss a week of CSA or can’t pick up?
If you need to miss a week, you can do one of the following:
-Get a friend, family member, or neighbor to pick up for you: our fresh produce lasts over a week in the fridge.
-Tell us in advance and we will donate your share to a needy family.
-If you let us know in advance, we will hold your share on the farm for you to pick up at an arranged time.
Unfortunately, we don’t refund, double up, or add weeks at the end.
What if I need to cancel my share?
In these cases we would love to have you find a friend who will take the remaining weeks in your share, or we will see if someone on the waiting list is interested. We don’t provide refunds/returns, but please alert us if there are extenuating circumstances.
Any other perks of joining the CSA?
Yes! You will get regular newsletter emails with info on what is coming up, recipes and cooking tips, produce storage information, access to farm tours and events, and general kudos for supporting your local farmers!
